Introduction – Shreya Sakhrani

Hi everyone! My name is Shreya. I was born in Toronto, but spent my formative years growing up in Mumbai, India. I moved back to Canada when I was 15 and have been in Victoria ever since. My first language is English and I’m also fluent in Hindi. I’m currently in my final semester at UVic studying Economics with a Business minor, graduating this fall!

Academically I love anything involving finance, data and research. I completed a 12-month co-op as a Junior Economist, which was a really valuable experience working with large datasets and economic modelling. When I’m not busy studying, I love getting outside and exploring Vancouver Island. Some of my hobbies include hiking up Mt. Doug or Mt. Tolmie, spending time at the beach, and going up island whenever I can!

I’m hoping to come away from this course with a better understanding of how technology is reshaping education and what that means going forward. One aspect that interests me about this course is the intersection of technology, access, and equity in education. Coming from two very different educational systems, I’ve seen how differently learning can be structured and who gets access to what. I’m looking forward to thinking critically about digital spaces and open learning, and hearing perspectives from everyone.
